The medina of Sfax was founded in 849, according to the orders of the Aghlabid emir, Abu l Abbas I. It is considered to be one of the rare medieval towns in North Africa. This legacy, despite the many changes that its buildings have undergone over the centuries, still retains a little modified urban fabric.
With its ramparts, streets, residences, hammams and souks, the medina of Sfax is a heritage complex combining beauty, authenticity, and monumentality. Thus, in order to maintain the aesthetical view of this heritage, we installed the ‘Medina’ 40W with remote management systems delivering a warm yellow light. Such choices were due to the product’s design, which harmonizes with the architectonic setting and the previously installed sodium luminaires.
Through this project, we wanted to highlight the charm of the medina along with an antique glam. With an eye to put that modern touch, as well, ‘Medina’ luminaires are assisted by motion sensors where light is at its extreme only when movement or presence is detected within the scope of the detector.
