Sfax-Thyna international airport serves Sfax and more generally the entire Tunisian Sahel region. It was put into operation in 1980, and has undergone several extensions and developments since 1988.
The airport has upgraded the lighting in the parking lot zone as part of its mission to manage and maintain a safe and sustainable airport. They wanted a lighting system that would increase visibility, ease landing and taking-off operations, and thus reduce energy consumption over the long term. Accordingly, programmable ‘Maracana 600W’ luminaires were installed in the parking lot, performing a gradual lighting solution.
This LED floodlight has been fitted with a reflector which enables the floodlight to significantly reduce light pollution and thus increase visibility and security of the passengers as well. It emits a bright white light (5000K) with a considerably high CRI > 70% (Color Rendering Index) which enhances safety and the working conditions for the pilots, air traffic controllers and ground crews. In fact, this is further assured since ‘Maracana’ produces an eye-harmless light (RG0: Risk Group 0).
The ‘Maracana’ has a strong mechanical design that makes it waterproof and shockproof, allowing it to withstand the vibrations that occur when planes take off and land. This, combined with the LEDs’ extended life, considerably reduces the need for maintenance.
